Targets

The courses in Landscape Architecture have the precise target to form experts in open spaces design and planning at different scales, able to interact in interdisciplinary working groups. Landscape culture is, by its nature, interdisciplinary and includes architectural design, environmental engineering, urban planning, forest and agricultural science, natural and environmental science, geography, human and social science.
The program is centred on the investigation of the technical-scientific and project knowledges, implicit in the subject, Landscape Architecture, which concentrates today on developing strategies for a sustainable and integrated control and improvement of the territory, as expected by the international environment protocols and the European Landscape Conventiono.
The task of the mster consists in reaching the European standard of training for landscape architects in conformity with the parameters established by the association in order to homologate and certificate the professional activities of the field in the E.U.
The qualification is admitted by EFLA (European Federation for Landscape Architects).
The qualification may offer job opportunities in professional and consultative activities, internationally admitted by privately run firms (studies and societies) or public agencies (administrations, parks, superintendences).

Training Paths

The program allows a flexible path of formation articulated in didactic modules (of 50 hours or multiple) inside which every participant can specifically operate proper choices for his/her own characteristics, attitudes and demands. The completion of the formative program that gives title of master can be fulfilled according to the followings:
Course of canonical master, suitable for post-graduate students, consists of the frequency of the five modules within the year of registration. In the case of interruption of the frequency, communicated with suitable antecedence, all the modules frequented with profit will be accredited. The course can be re-started in the following years, previous written communication.
Open registration allows the separate frequency of the single modules selected in the application in different years from the one in progress. The registration is valid untill the thesis is completed.
Progressive accreditation of the single courses of Continuous Formation UPC/ACMA (High Permanent and Recurrent Formation) activated in Barcellona or Milan.
At the end of the frequency and after the result of the discussion of the thesis the title of Master in Landscape Architecture will be released by the Foundation UPC of Barcellona.
Frequency is required for at least the 80% of the selected didactic activities.

Thematic areas
The theoretical and practical activities will be planned in accordance with the formative parameters of the EFLA (European Foundation of Landscape Architecture).

Culture _ Landscape is by its nature indissociabile from its representation, since the awareness of the reality, of the World, of the other communities and of its signs derives from the representation that we build of all of this.

Environment _ Analysis, management and planning of the territory cannot be separated from a knowledge of the principal elements that condition the physical-natural and historical-cultural evolution of an environmental whole. The ability to classify the vegetation is not so much determinant by itself but it has to go with the study of the whole ecosystem, necessary for biodiversity, in specific geographical and climatic conditions in a specific period of time.

Techniques _ From the technological structuring of the landscape to the protection of delicate areas: the knowledge of technologies and facilities now represent essential tools in the “artificialization” of the environment and have to be taken into consideration (sustainability).

Tools _ Planning and management of parks and planning of services in protected areas require a deep knowledge of technical tools of survey, of national and European laws and codes that regulate the environment.

Project _ Contemporary landscape planning requires a new consciousness, able to understand the demands of development and the environmental resources, translating it in a new planning method.
